PhD PROGRAMME

About the Program

The PhD in Economics is a research-oriented postgraduate professional education program designed to train highly qualified specialists capable of conducting independent and original research in economics, developing and applying advanced methods of economic analysis, and formulating evidence-based solutions for government, business, and society.

The program combines coursework with research activities. Particular emphasis is placed on developing independent researchers who are able to identify relevant research problems, design appropriate research methodologies, work with contemporary academic sources and datasets, present research findings to the international academic community, and prepare a dissertation demonstrating an original scholarly contribution.

Research conducted within the program addresses both fundamental economic issues and current development challenges facing the Kyrgyz Republic, Central Asia, and the global economy.

Program Goal

The goal of the program is to train highly qualified specialists in the field of economics who are able to:

• conduct independent research;
• formulate and address relevant theoretical and applied research problems;
• apply modern quantitative and qualitative methods of economic research;
• analyze economic data;
• critically evaluate the academic literature;
• develop evidence-based recommendations in the fields of economic policy and management;
• publish research findings in academic journals and other scholarly publications;
• participate in international research projects;
• pursue academic and professional careers at both national and international levels.

Admission Requirements

Admission to the PhD program is open to citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as foreign nationals and stateless persons, in accordance with the cases and procedures established by the legislation of the Kyrgyz Republic and applicable international treaties.

The primary requirement regarding prior education is a completed higher professional education degree confirmed by one of the following qualifications:

• a Master's degree;
• a Specialist qualification.

Applicants' prior educational background must provide an adequate foundation for successful completion of the program in the selected field of study.

Entrance Examinations

Admission is conducted on a competitive basis. Admission to the PhD doctoral program and/or field-specific doctoral program is based on the results of entrance examinations in the selected field of study and the English language. The content, format, schedule, and assessment criteria for the entrance examinations are established by the annual Admission Rules of Adam University.

• an identity document (passport);
• a notarized copy of a higher professional education diploma with a Master's degree or Specialist qualification;
• for graduates of foreign educational institutions — a certificate issued by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Innovation of the Kyrgyz Republic confirming the level and content of educational documents issued by foreign educational institutions;
• an essay outlining the applicant's proposed research activities;
• a list of scientific publications and other scholarly works, if available;
• a curriculum vitae (CV);
• other documents stipulated by the annual Admission Rules.

The programme focuses on fostering a strong research culture and developing the ability to independently identify and analyze complex management challenges, develop evidence-based solutions, and evaluate their effectiveness.

Particular attention is given to contemporary challenges in organizational management arising from digital transformation, globalization, technological change, and the emergence of new business models.
